Every year people all over the United States participate in Buy Nothing Day (BND)- originated by Adbusters. BND focuses on concerns about the ecological, psychological and political consequences of our consumer culture and the impact of our materialism/consumerism on society.
This year’s BND takes place on Friday Nov 24. Many of us have participated in leaflet distribution and consumer carol sings on BND. The Desert Greens Green Party of Utah would like to do something different this year that will prove to be more useful and meaningful as well as educational. To that end, the Desert Greens is soliciting your support and participation for a new community-oriented approach to BND.
Patterned after a similar event in Rhode Island (read article at: http://www.greens.org/ri), we will embark on the First Annual Buy Nothing Day Winter Coat Exchange – a collection and distribution of winter coats - between 10 AM and 2PM on Friday, November 24, 2006 (“Black Friday”.) Bring your donations to Free Speech Zone, 2144 South Highland Drive.
If you need a coat, come get one. If you have a coat, we know someone who can use it.
Left over coats will be donated to the Crossroads Urban Center Thrift Store
Please contact us if your organization is willing to support this first annual event as a co-sponsor (obligations of co-sponsors are to publicize the event to your network).
We look forward to hearing from you! Thank you for your support!
