DESERT GREENS GREEN PARTY OF UTAH state affiliate of the Green Party of the United States Desert Greens reminds us of the ecosystem we live in and how delicate it is, in need of our protection. But it also is inspiring; even in the harshest of conditions, life finds a way and thrives.
Every year people all over the United States participate in Buy Nothing Day (BND)- originated by Adbusters. BND focuses on concerns about the ecological, psychological and political consequences of our consumer culture and the impact of our materialism/consumerism on society.
This year’s BND takes place on Friday Nov 23. Many of us have participated in leaflet distribution and consumer carol sings on BND. The Desert Greens Green Party of Utah would like to do something different this year that will prove to be more useful and meaningful as well as educational. To that end, the Desert Greens is soliciting your support and participation for a new community-oriented approach to BND.
Patterned after a similar event in Rhode Island, we embarked on the First Annual Buy Nothing Day Winter Coat Exchange on November 24, 2006 – a collection and distribution of winter coats. This year's coat exchange will be held between 10 AM and 2PM on Friday, November 23, 2007 (“Black Friday”.) on Library Plaza at the Downtown Salt Lake City Library.
If you need a coat, come get one. If you have a coat, we know someone who can use it.
Left over coats will be donated to the Crossroads Urban Center Thrift Store
Please contact us if your organization is willing to support this second annual event as a co-sponsor (obligations of co-sponsors are to publicize the event to your network).
We look forward to hearing from you! Thank you for your support!
